With large windows that welcome natural light and contemporary furniture, the modern ranch looks like the perfect getaway for those who enjoy both the chilly nights in the mountains and the sunny days on the beach.
San Francisco-based Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects have built a minimalist house with amazing views over the Pacific Ocean. Secluded on a hilly mountainous landscape, the Sea Ranch Residence is almost entirely clad in wood. Simple on the outside, the house charms with its warm interior that features cedar ceilings and sheetrock walls.

House Design : Cutler House in Montauk, New York
We at Freshome think that the Cutler House is the ultimate vacation home. Put up together in Montauk, New York, by the creative folks from Murdock Young Architects, the building was meant with a minimal impact on the surrounding landscape.
The house is clad with a textured wood paneled exterior (that goes great with the large windows) and features a large swimming pool where you can get the perfect tan on a sunny day. But the house proves amazing on the inside, too. With contemporary furnishings and clean shapes that add style to a modern interior, there’s something about the Cutler House that makes it suited for a long weekend party. Don’t you think?

Custom Sand Job: Casa Monte na Comporta in Portugal
Surounded by trees and located in Grandola, Portugal, the cave-like modern home is configured in a skewed X shape, with a wooden exterior, a small pool on one side and a minimalist theme on the inside. Party-perfect, we can already imagine a lot of tequillas, Pina Coladas, great music and bikinis.
Waking up and stepping on hot sand in the morning has to be an amazing feeling. But what if you have the sun but don’t have the sand? Then you’ll have to give architect Luis Pereira Miguel of Lisbon-based Pereira Miguel Arquitectos a call. He recently built two crescent-shaped sand dunes on top of the Casa Monte na Comporta.

Black S-House 2 Residence by Tamizo Architects
And although it achieves a small contrast with the heavily vegetated lot, we sure miss one of those stylish pools just to have a place to hide from the sun when summer settles at the command.
It is always heartening to see creativity in “effect”, but this S-House 2 Residence close to Namyslow in Poland, takes the whole concept to a new level. Designed by the young and talented architects from Tamizo, this doubled-storied structure proves an ambitious project which features a black styled exterior that follows an elegant minimalist theme.
Hillside Gipsy House in Berkeley, California
While on the interior a “floating” staircase dominates the whole living area with its stylish wood and glass, on the outside, the strong connection with nature is all that matters. Simplicity at its best
Designed by Architect Craig Steely on a steep sloping acre lot in Berkeley, California, the Gipsy House is a modernish structure with a rich natural wooden exterior that adds to its natural appeal. With one part of the house buried into the hillside and the other one— mostly glass, cantilevering toward the view, the contemporary design is all about details, sharp edges and quality furnishings.
